The number one comment I hear when rhapsodizing about La Dolce Diva’s line of Dolce Divina scents is, ” I don’t want to smell like food.” Oh, my goodness, is that what you think? Do you really think I would let you walk around smelling like a bakery? And would that be so bad, anyway?
Just as many people close their eyes and sigh when I tell them about our collection of scents inspired by dessert – obviously, they are enlightened!
Dolce Divina is a collection of scents inspired by the desserts of Italy. Yes. The scents have names like, Almond Biscotti, Gelato, Strawberry di Chocolata and Tiramisu. True. Are the scents the actual by-products of these delectable desserts? No. They are carefully formulated fragrance oils meant to tease your senses into thinking they smell these items. The oh-so-clever names are simply there to lead the way.
These type of “foodie” scents are actually called Gourmand Fragrances. Doesn’t that sound classier than “foodie?” Well it should. These scents are meant to trigger your olfactory memory, one of the most powerful parts of our brain that connects memories to smells. Have you ever smelled fresh baked apple-pie and had a sudden flash of a holiday memory or feel the warmth of a family gathering? The smell of vanilla wafting through the air brings an image of your mother baking a birthday cake and you smile thinking about it today? It could be something that happened long ago and you had “forgotten” all about it, but a single whiff brings it all back.
Gourmand scents have become so popular because they have been found to , more often than not, produce a feeling of comfort, joy and happy memories. It is not to say that only dessert scents trigger these feelings, steak and baked potatoes are pretty yummy smelling too…but we are talking about bath and body products here, I am confident that I would not find joy in spreading on Steak de la Grille in the morning. We will leave that to the La Dolce Dude Collection. Not.
Gourmand scents are not just meant to take you back, they are also a fabulous way to let your mind escape to a Roman piazza nibbling on an almond biscotti, or licking that last drip of gelato off the spoon.
Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, citrus, almond, spices, etc. have all been in our bath, body & perfume lives for years, even decades, and you were totally unaware. Jergen’s classic scent is a light cherry-almond. Literally hundreds of perfumes use vanilla as a base note, for example; Coco, Allure, Shalimar & Angel. And the omnipresent citrus; lemon verbena, orange verbena, lime, grapefruit etc. You probably didn’t even think of these fruity-citrus scents as foods, did you? Well, think again.
Indulge your senses by giving one of these luscious dessert scents a try…they are meant to transport you, if just for moment, then the scrumptious scent will sink into your skin and remind you all day what a SWEET Diva you are!
