Looking A Gift Horse In The Mouth
Posted by La Dolce Diva on Aug 29, 2009 | 0 commentsIf you think a horse is some sort of la-de-da luxury, you may be right. However, most horse owners are just normal people who make sacrifices in order to have one. I’m one of those people.
In this economy, finances can get tight. That barn bill can be more than a small mortgage. Having a horse is a huge decision and commitment. Horses can live 20–30 years. They’re also not something that you can easily sell or even give-away if you can no longer afford it.
I don’t have to worry about feeding him everyday or mucking his stall. I have to worry about paying for it. Believe me, sometimes I ask myself is it worth it?
Yes.
On a morning like today, when I really have no other expectation except to have a nice ride, it always surprises me how much better the world seems afterward. Even after having a tough ride, it’s better than a good day doing most anything else.
When I first started this blog, I said I would try to help make you see the sweetness in the little things in life. Sometimes that’s hard. As I’ve admitted before, I can be superficial and shallow. I can get all caught up in celebrity worship, status stuff and fashion magazines as much as the next Diva, maybe even more so.
Sometimes I whine to my BFF that I thought I would be “more.” That I should be further along. She says “Why? Why can’t this just be enough?”
Mark your calendar, at this moment, I’ll say it’s enough. But tomorrow is another day, I’ll start whining again then. For today, I’ll look at my life and be thankful for it’s gifts.
Is there something you have or do that seems like an extravagance, but is really a necessity for your sanity? Share It. I won’t judge
