Presley & Me

Presley & Me the day we moved away from the Big Apple.

When asked if you are a “Cat” person or a “Dog” person, there seems to be general warm acceptance of being a Dog Person. If you say you are Cat Person…you usually get an “Ooooooh” — as if they have you All-Figured-Out. Cat Person: high maintenance, persnickety, haughty, spoiled and the list goes on. None of the adjectives get any more positive than that. That’s okay. Fine. We Cat People are independent and self-reliant, we don’t really worry about what people think of us…we don’t have to BEG for acceptance.

Those that know me now would find it hard to believe that, at one time, I considered myself a dog person. That is, until I moved to New York. I quickly realized I was not the kind of person who was going to walk my dog twice a day, rain or snow. Not to mention, picking up his “business”. And lastly, making sure I was home every night to feed him on time. It is just not me. But I did want a pet. The next obvious choice was a cat. Hmmmm, a cat. No walking, free-feeding, uses a litter box. OK then, choice made.

After a couple of years really thinking about whether I was ready for the responsibility of taking care of a pet, doing research on different cat breeds regarding care, personality and researching breeders, I settled on a Himalayan. A Blue-Cream Himalayan or Himmie, as we Himmie owners say.

I named her Presley Ann Applelakes. Presley after my favorite singer, Ann after my sister and Applelakes after the breeder I purchased her from.

This is not the time that I will go on endlessly about every cute little thing Presley did. I had her for 17 years, and through it all, I can say, she was the quintessential New York cat. She had been on planes, trains and automobiles. She went through all the laughs, tears, promotions, lay-offs and endless circular discussions I had with myself. She was my first real pet and she is my heart.

She lives on through La Dolce Diva. Throughout my product packaging, website and blog graphics, you will notice a cat..a little Himmie. That’s my sweet Presley girl.

What a great story of your little himmie, Presley! She is so adorable! You know I’m a cat person and what a great way to describe us — “We Cat People are independent and self-reliant, we don’t really worry about what people think of us…we don’t have to BEG for acceptance”. Oh how true that is!

Too cute! I love the artwork and that of the kitty is just special! I actually have my grandmother’s recipe handwriting in one of the graphics on my website. Those that are important to us are on our business path with us. Can’t imagine a better day!

    Regina,
What a great way to put it…yes, they are on the business path with us. Even if the general population doesn’t realize the visual cues they are getting into our lives-I think somehow the warmth and heart somehow translates.

    Hi Presley Girl,

I miss you. I remember all those trips your “mommy” took and it was just you and me twice a day.. we always had great conversations about grooming, how to get knots out of your so beautiful coat (if you would let me catch you). You were our first diva.

What a snuggly pillow she was! I love the photo of you two with the city in the background. Cats are amazing that way — being so supportive and adaptive to new surroundings. Very good teachers for us. Though I love dogs, I’m wild about cats. Their calmness, grace, and all that good stuff.
