Baby Needs a New Pair of Leopard Skin Shoes
Since starting La Dolce Diva, I have acquired a lot of leopard skin patterned accessories; shoes, scarfs, handbags, glasses, etc.
Now, to be fair, animal prints have historically gotten a bad rap. I am the first to admit that if one chooses to sport some leopard, there is a fine line between tasteful & tacky. Tasteful is adding a leopard item here and there to spice an outfit up – never more than 2 pieces. Tacky is matching head-to-toe, capiche? I knew that you would.
A few months ago, I wore a pair of leopard skin shoes to visit my niece, whom, heretofore, shall be known as Dinky~Diva. As I walked into her room, her face lit up, as is per-normal for our wee-cherub. She started to look back at what she was playing with when something caught her eye…my leopard skin shoes. She dropped her toy, crawled over and started petting my feet. “Shoe”, I said. “Sue”, she said. “Prada”, my sister said.
I was delighted, my Dinky~Diva was showing the first signs of a seriously high Fashion IQ. This would only come naturally, not directly from me, my sister is a fashion plate to be reckoned with.
A couple days later, my sister sent me an email, “I think Dinky~Diva needs these.” It was a link to leopard skin shoes at PediPeds. Of course, Dinky~Diva must have these shoes. Look! They come in pink. She must have those too! Oh, come on, when else can you wear pink leopard skin and get away with it except at the ages of 5 & under?
So the cycle begins, imprinting style and taste at a young age will help form a well-rounded Fashion IQ. It takes a sisterhood to raise a Sweet Diva.
What style tips are you passing on to the Dinky~Divas in your life?

Jennifer,
How precious is Dinky~Diva and her PediPeds are adorable! I have “Dinky~Divas” in my life too. They are, however, on the opposite end of the spectrum. Kade and Kelby are down home country girls at heart who love to ride 4-wheelers, go fishing and hang out with their Daddy. They dress well but fashion has never been high on their list. I am sure when it comes time for boys to take interest in them, their fashion radar will appear. Any fashion tips they receive from the women in their lives is presently falling on deaf ears. Right now, they are focused on how much fun they have and how dirty they can get!
Loved your post!

Well- honestly, I am sure my Dinky~Diva will take control of what she wants to wear soon enough. Right now she is just a dress-up doll. I have an older D.D.- who went through a phase, but at 11 is now back in the fold and loves to go shopping with Aunt Jenny. Don’t worry- your time will come

Style/Budget tips to pass on for Diva Mommas and Dinky Divas alike: Paying retail is okay SOMETIMES. Mega-outlet malls suck these days. Off-5th–a true outlet where all the unwanted clothes from the Saks sales rack go to die–is the best place for a bargain. The one on Hilton Head Island is DEFINITELY worth a visit if you are down that way–much better than the Tangier mega-outlet off the main drag.

Well, I don’t have many D~Ds in my life. With 3 boys of my own, I have not had many opportunities to do the Diva thing. I like to refer to myself at times as a Domestic Diva, but I am a fairly simple “Mary-Ann” to be honest. I like to dream about being as fashionable as “Ginger” at times, but not so practical in my world. Now, if I had a little D~D of my own, that could change everything for sure!

Laurie, Great tip about what is a TRUE outlet and what they call in the biz “SMU”- or special make-up for discount and has never seen a name brand store retail space.
Candance, We all dream of being Ginger! But there is really no depth there…isn’t being a Mary-Ann more fun where we get to “Surprise” people with Divalicious version of ourselves every now and then?

Well, am I proud or not! At one point in my professional life I pursued my Diva shoe fetish and it has been reproduced (genetically) I assume, in my daughters and grand daughters.
I work in a big box store now and leopard print shoes are not excluded from the dress code… hmmmmmmmmm!
